Amazon SEO Guide 2026: Rank Products and Win the Buy Box
Amazon's A10 algorithm ranks listings differently from Google. How to optimise product listings, build review velocity, and dominate organic and paid Amazon results.
On Amazon you don't rank because you're relevant. You rank because you sell. The algorithm optimises their commission, and commission comes from conversion.
That inverts the order: you don't optimise in order to sell, you sell in order to rank.
What matters, in order
Listing conversion rate. The strongest signal. If 100 people see the product and 12 buy, you climb. If 2 buy, you fall, however well you wrote the title.
Sales velocity. Units per day relative to your category. This is where aggressive launches get their advantage.
Text relevance. It counts, but it's third. A perfect title on a listing that doesn't convert doesn't climb.
Availability. Going out of stock resets your momentum. Recovery takes weeks.
The title
Structure: Brand + Model + Product type + Main attribute + Size/Quantity
The first 60–70 characters are what shows on mobile, where most searches happen. Put what matters there.
Don't stuff keywords. Amazon indexes bullets and back-end fields too — the title doesn't need to carry everything.
Images: where conversion is won
Seven images with distinct jobs:
- Product on white, filling 85% of the frame
- Product in use, with size context
- A quality detail — stitching, material, finish
- What's in the box
- Comparison with the alternative
- Three benefits, as an infographic
- Instructions or dimensions
Images do more for conversion than all the copy combined.
Reviews
Below 15 reviews, conversion is materially weaker regardless of product. It's the psychological threshold where people start trusting.
Use only the platform's official programmes to get them. Incentivised reviews outside those lead to account suspension, and recovery is slow and uncertain.
The most expensive mistake
Changing price often. Every change partially resets the conversion history the algorithm relies on. Set a price, test it for two or three weeks, then decide.
What to check weekly
The percentage of sessions that become orders, against your category average. It's the only number that predicts where you'll be in a month.
